The use of a sulphated disaccharide, or a salt or complex thereof, for producing a preparation for topical application for preventing or treating ageing of the skin, connective tissue, epithelial surfaces or mucosa, including for preventing or treating skin wrinkles, and also a process for preventing or treating skin wrinkles, with a cosmetic preparation which comprises a sulphated disaccharide, or a salt or complex thereof, being applied to the skin. The sulphated disaccharide, or salt or complex thereof, is, in particular, sucrose octasulphate, or a sodium or potassium salt thereof, or the aluminium complex of sucrose octasulphate (sucralfate).
