PURPOSE: To obtain a piroxicam-containing pharmaceutical composition that contains piroxicam as the effective substance, in an oleophilic water-in-oil system, and is used for diseases and lesions in the kinetic system and stable for a long time without such defects as discoloration due to instability and dryness of the skin. CONSTITUTION: This piroxicam-containing pharmaceutical composition, which is used locally for cure of athletic lesions, rheumatic diseases, etc., comprises an water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion which contains piroxicam as the effective substance, in oil phase, and if necessary, stabilizers, preservatives and/or pharmacologically inactive components and/or carriers in the form of basic agent. This composition does not cause discoloration nor dryness of the skin, and is stable even after long-term storage, and applicable to the skin with reproducibility of the effect when used as a therapeutic means of external application.
