The plasmotron is used in metalworking and machine building. Its electronic controls offer increased reliability and improved operating characteristics in automatic open arc plasmotron cutting owing to the lack of high-frequency interferences with the electronic systems, while the simplified design of the plasmotron eliminates the need for a high frequency arc ignition generator, protection choke and filters. The plasmotron consists of an electrically and thermally insulated cathode (1) unit and anode (7) unit. A copper electrode (5) fitted with a high-melting metal (zirconium or hafnium) insert (6) is placed in the front section of the cathode unit (1), while the anode unit (7) terminates with a copper nozzle (9) and a protective ceramic nozzle (10). The copper anode nozzle (9) is mounted on a running fit inside the cylinder-shaped case (8) of the anode unit (7) and is pressed against the copper cathode electrode (5) by the spring (12), the latter pressing inturn against the protective ceramic nozzle (10).
