Encapsulating waste materials comprises using a metal vessel which is corrosion- and temp. resistant, and filling the vessel with waste material or a combination of waste material mixed with protective corrosion resistant metal/ceramic powder. The vessel is the evacuation and sealing of vessel and locating first vessel into outer vessel prior to applying heat and pressure. The process further includes subsequent stages:-the introduction of protective metal/ceramic powder in interspace between outer- and inner vessel, evacuating and sealing of outer vessel applying controlled heat and pressure to vessels, so that contents in vessel and intermediate protective powder form a solid matrix.
