The appts. to detect a weft break, in the shed of a multi-phase loom, has a row of closed solenoids connected to a mechanism to stop or hold the loom operation. The row runs across the whole working zone, so that they work with the bobbins on the shuttles below each of which has an off-centre magnetic component. - The rotating weft bobbins, on the shuttles, pref. each have four magnetic components arranged in pairs, diametrically opposed across the bobbin axis. The closed solenoids have a longitudinal gap between them which matches the interval between the bobbins on successive shuttles.
