PURPOSE:To optionally control the depth of a field without being influenced by the iris of a lens by providing the control device with a means for changing a focal position and a means for synthesizing an image signal and synthesizing a new image signal from image signals having respectively different focal positions. CONSTITUTION:The control device is provided with the means for obtaining two images 1, 2 having respectively different focal positions and the means for synthesizing an image signal having an optional depth of a field from the images 1, 2 having respectively different focal positions. In the case of photographing a person, the image 1 having the highest focus on the person and the image 2 having the highest focus on a background are obtained. The means for synthesizing an image signal synthesizes one image 3 by selectively using only the image signal parts having the highest focuses from these two image signals. Consequently, the highest focus image for the person can be obtained, the image with the required depth of field for the background image can also be obtained and a video signal with high resolution can be obtained as whole.
