PURPOSE:To grind an edge surface of a cutter for a plane iron or the like accurately in a short time by attaching a sliding base, supporting a grinding wheel, to a feed screw, connecting this feed screw to an automatic driving part, making it correspond to the reciprocating changeover of a tool rest and rotate automatically, then constituting the grinding wheel so as to infeed to the cutter successively. CONSTITUTION:A tool rest 3 is set on a table 4, making this tool rest 3 slide in the axial direction of a grinding wheel 7, thus an edge surface 6a of a cutter 6 is ground. When this tool rest 3 has come to a reference position, a sliding base 5 supporting the grinding wheel 7 is automatically rotated by a feed screw 12, infeeding a wheel face to the cutter 6 as far as the specified amount. After completion of grinding the edge surface 6a with the specified amount of infeed, the feed screw 12 is further rotated automatically as far as the specified value, through which the wheel face is further cut in the edge surface 6a of the cutter 6, grinding this edge surface 6a of the cutter 6 in addition. |
