A transducer in which the relative positions of a first scale and a second scale which are displaced relatively to each other are measured as absolute values. It can be used in length-measuring devices such as calipers. A number of transmitting electrodes which are supplied with A.C. signals of different phases are provided on the first scale, and receiving electrodes which are coupled capacitively with the aforesaid transmitting electrodes are provided on the second scale. Second transmitting electrodes, which are electrically connected by coupling electrodes to the aforesaid receiving electrode, are provided on the second scale, specified deflections are provided between both electrodes on the second scale, and the relative positions of both scales can be measured as absolute values by means of these deflections. Coarse, medium and fine measurements can be performed by suitably selecting the phases of the electrodes positioned on both scales and the combinations of the transmitting electrodes.
|
