Following a pyrolysis, the solid residues and the gaseous effluents are subjected separately to a consecutive treatment. Immediately after the pyrolysis, the solid residues (2) of the pyrolysis are divided, within the very pyrolysis atmosphere (3), into at least two components having different particle sizes. The carbon content is predominant in the fine-particle component (10) and the inert parts are predominant in the large-particle component (9). The components are then subjected separately to a lowering of the temperature (11, 12) and then to the consecutive treatment. Applicable especially to objects of everyday use which have been broken up and include, in particular, metal parts. <IMAGE>
