PURPOSE:To enhance a nonlinear effect by introducing and doping an element for adjusting a refractive index into a porous quartz glass body consisting of the hydrolyzed and gelatinized matter of specific silicon alkoxide combined and integrated with an org. compd. having a nonlinear optical effect. CONSTITUTION:The element for adjusting the refractive index is incorporated into the porous quartz glass body consisting of the hydrolyzed and gelatinized matter (b) of the silicon alkoxide which is combined and integrated with the org. compd. (a) having the nonlinear optical effect. and is expressed by formula I. In the formula I, R is an alkyl group. For example, 2-methyl-4-nitroaniline (MNA), m-nitroaniline (m-NA), etc., are preferably used as the org. compd. The compd. of the formula I is exemplified by, for example, silicon methoxide, silicon ethoxide, silicon butoxide, etc. The nonlinear material having the higher nonlinear effect is obtd. in this way. |
