PURPOSE:To obtain an economical battery with high discharge characteristic by forming a porous layer made of continuous foam resin in gaps between positive electrode plates and negative electrode plates and around an electrode plate group, and impregnating and holding a sulfuric acid electrolyte in the foam resin. CONSTITUTION:Negative electrode plates 4 and positive electrode plates 5 are arranged respectively on both sides of separators 1 made of an acid-resistant synthetic resin material to form an electrode plate group, a phenol foam resin raw liquid is injected into a battery jar 3, and a porous layer 6 made of phenol foam resin is formed in gaps between the plates 4, 5 and around the electrode plate group. The battery jar 3 is closed by a cover 7 with an exhaust valve 8, a sulfuric acid electrolyte is injected, it is impregnated and held in the porous layer 6, and an economical sealed lead-acid battery with the high-rate discharge characteristic and low-rate discharge characteristic higher than those of a retainer type battery and a gel type battery is obtained. |
