PURPOSE:To suitably set the intensity of a light indicating the printing position in accordance with the environmental brightness by providing a detecting means for detecting the brightness in the neighborhood of a printing apparatus, and a controlling means for variably controlling the luminance of the light generated from a light emitting means in accordance with the detecting result of the detecting means. CONSTITUTION:At the printing time, an LED 4a is driven via an LED driver 115 to emit an illuminating light L to indicate the printing position. A control part 101 controls the luminance of the light generated from the LED 4a in accordance with the brightness in the neighborhood of a typewriter (particularly, the brightness in the vicinity of the printing position) detected by a photosensor 20, i.e., increases the luminance as the brightness around the typewriter is higher, or decreases the luminance as it is darker. The luminance of the LED 4a controlled by changing the driving voltage of the LED 4a. For controlling the luminance, a data table of the driving voltage of the LED 4a corresponding to the brightness around the typewriter detected by the photosensor 20 is stored in a ROM 103 of the control part 101. |
