Provided is an axial gap type rotating machine comprising a coil (3) including a winding (4) made by binding two or more coil element wires (5) having a rectangular section, such that the longer and/or shorter sides of their sections are aligned. The winding (4) has an insulating coating (6) on its outer periphery, and is made such that the longer sides of the sections of the coil element wires (5) and the magnetic pole faces of a permanent magnet are perpendicular to each other.
