Electric motor commutator mfr. - filling concave recesses in surface of commutator ring with solder for supplying thermal welding points

The electric motor commutator is mfd. by applying solder material to specific points around the outside of the commutator ring, to which conductors are to be attached by thermal welding. The surface of the commutator ring is machined to provide concave recesses, each communicating with one of these points and filled with molten solder material so that the latter flows to the required point. Pref. the concave recesses are filled with the solder material using a capillary effect. ADVANTAGE - Reduced usage of solder for reducing commutator mfg. cost.
