In this method the affected site is subjected to the effects of a sprayed abrasive agent, esp corundum, blasted on by air or water pressure or a mixt. of the two. The area in the immediate vicinity of the damage (2-30 mm around the periphery) is also cleansed by blasting with a shape-edged abrasive. The protective layer is applied next by plasma or detonation spraying, powder-flame or wire-flame or electric arc methods. The pores of the covering layer thus produced are then closed by mechanical working esp. brushing with a metallic or non-metal powder. Alternatively, the pore closing can be effected by a sealant, esp. one based on poly-methylmethacrylate or epoxy resin. USE/ADVANTAGE - Useful for mending steel tanks coated with enamel, as used in the food industry. Cheap and simple method.
