<p>An access platform (11) to support personnel, for example, for maintenance of a fixed column (10) or like structure, comprising a rectangular base frame (12) having upstanding vertical corner members (13) and a rectangular guard rail (14) all suspended by supporting cables (15) and a single suspension line (17). The platform is lowered into place without personnel on board, and a tie strap (20) is then taken around the column (10) and made fast by ratchet handle (21) on the base (12). By virtue of a bolt-on front bracing frame (18) the platform is made fast against the column (10). A leg (23) pivotally attached to the rear of the base (12) is tensioned by a line (26) such that its forward edge (25) is also braced against the column (10). Thus, the entire platform is supported by and braced against the column (10) such that it cannot fall away in the event of failure of the suspension line (17). Once installed, the platform may be occupied by maintenance personnel.</p> |
