The invention relates to a device for transferring heat to a graphite-free and alkali-silicate-free liquid lubricant with a water base by means of a lamellar heat-transfer device and also to a process for manufacturing the device. The object of the invention is to develop a device with which a high heat flow can be achieved in a technically simple manner while avoiding contamination of the lubricant. According to the invention an up to 0.5 mm thick heat-insulating layer (4) consisting of the solids contained in the lubricant to be heated is produced on the tube (2) of a lamellar heat-transfer device having a lamella spacing of at least 3 mm over not more than 15% of the lamella surface adjacent to the tube (2) while superheated steam is flowing through the latter. With this coverage of the lamellar heat-transfer device, an optimum heat transfer is guaranteed while avoiding disadvantageous bubble formation.
