The engine bonnet (1) of a motor vehicle can be unlocked from inside the vehicle, and is retained by a pivotable catch hook (3) in an arrested position. The bonnet is released from this position using a grip lever (6) which pivots the catch hook. The grip lever extends through an opening in the vehicle bodywork, and when the bonnet moves upwards from the locked position the lever is pushed from a covered position to one for operation which is externally accessible. The lever is pressed by a spring (9) onto a counter bearing (7) on the structural part (2) supporting the catch hook. The counter bearing is formed by a wall (7) of the opening through which the grip lever extends. USE/ADVANTAGE - To secure an engine bonnet of a motor vehicle in such a way that clattering noise during operation of the vehicle is suppressed.
