<p>A compression coupling for coupling pipes together comprises a union nut (10) having an internal thread (11) into which an external thread of one pipe (9) is screwed. The nut (10) has a flange (12) having a circular aperture of smaller diameter than the inside diameter of the thread (11). A frusto-conical annular compression ring (15) is provided which has its outer periphery engageable by said flange (12). To force the frusto-conical compression ring (15) into engagement with a second pipe (8), an elastomeric ring (17) seats within the nut (10) and engages the outer conical surface of the ring as the coupling is tightened thereby forcing the inner rim of the ring to grip the second pipe and possibly penetrate its surface. With the nut and compression ring being made of electrically conductive metal the pipes may be coupled both mechanically and electrically.</p> |
