A security device comprises a first part (1) including portion (3) bearing a design (4) and a contrasting portion (6) adjacent the design portion (3), and a second part (7) bearing a design (4') which matches that on the first part (1). The first part (1) is adapted to receive the second part (7) such that the designs (4, 4') correspond and the contrasting portion (6) is obscured from view by the second part (7). The first part (1) can be fixed to an article, particularly a vehicle and the second part (7) is retained by the owner or authorised user of the article, who places the second part (7) into position on the first part (1) when the article is in use. The presence of a matching second part (7) in the device indicates to the public that the article is being used by the owner or authorised user. The device may be connected to an alarm system or to a vehicle engine or ignition system such that the vehicle cannot be driven without the correct second part being in position. <IMAGE> |
