<p>A steel laminate gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine. The gasket basically comprises a first plate (A30), a third plate (A32), and a second plate (A31) situated between the first and third plates. The first plate (A30) includes a base portion (A30a) extending substantially the entire area of the gasket and located adjacent to the second plate (A31). The first plate (A30) further includes a curved portion (A30d) to define a hole (Hc) of the engine, and a flange (A30e) at a side of the base portion (A30a). A side wall (A30b) is formed on the base portion (A30a) or the flange (A30e) spaced from the curved portion (A30d), so that an embossed portion (A30c) is defined by the side wall (A30b) and the curved portion (A30d). The third plate (A32) includes a flat solid portion (formed of A32b and A32c) situated under the embossed portion. When the gasket is tightened, the solid portion receives and supports tightening pressure to seal around the hole, and the side wall forms a secondary seal therearound. <IMAGE></p> |
