The invention relates to an integrated-optic polarisation splitter (1) and its use, on the one hand, in an integrated-optic interferometric system with polarisation diversity (11) and, on the other hand, in an integrated-optic interferometric system having phase and polarisation diversity (21, 31). The said integrated-optic polarisation splitter comprises: - an entrant guide (2) into which is injected an incident wave whose TE and TM polarisation modes it is desired to separate; - first means (3) for splitting the said incident wave into two waves of equal amplitude, which waves are propagated in a first (4) and a second (5) branch of width I4 and I5, respectively; and - second means (6), for distributing the said two waves of equal amplitude equally in a first (7) and a second (8) exit branch, the said means consisting of an optical coupler of the 3 dB type which is itself composed of two waveguides (9, 10) of length equal to half the coupling length Lc; the widths of the said first and second branches being defined such that the two TE modes, and the two TM modes, respectively, which are propagated in the first and the second branches are phase shifted by + pi /2 or - pi /2 and by - pi /2 or + pi /2, respectively, so as to enable the said two TE and TM polarisation modes of the said incident wave to be spatially separated into the said first and second exit branches.

|
