<p>There is disclosed a muting device of an upright piano which provides a bat (9), a wipen (3), a capstan button (6) and a muting mechanism (15). This bat rotates with a hammer (11) which strikes a string (13) of the upright piano. In addition, a jack (7) is provided to come in contact with a lower surface of the bat, and it rotates the bat in response to displacement of the key. This jack is supported by the wipen such that it can freely rotate. The capstan button is provided at a back edge portion of the key to transmit displacement of the key to the wipen. The muting mechanism is designed to reduce a string-striking stroke by rotating the hammer. Further, there is provided a key-displacement-transmission-rate changing mechanism (20). When reducing the string-striking stroke by the muting mechanism, this mechanism raises a displacement transmission point, at which displacement of the key is transmitted to the wipen, toward a rotation center of the key from the capstan button. Preferably, this mechanism is configured by another capstan button which is placed on an upper surface of the key at a position between the capstan button and rotation center of the key. <IMAGE></p> |
