PURPOSE:To produce a polyester resin having toughness, excellent abrasion resistance and flexibility, low setting temperature and blocking resistance, by polycondensing a specified diol component with a carboxylic acid component. CONSTITUTION:A diol component of formula I (wherein R<1> is a 2-4C alkylene and X and Y are positive integers provided that their sum has an average of 2- 16) is polycondensed with a carboxylic acid component comprising (a) 5- 30mol% dibasic carboxylic acid (anhydride) or its lower alkyl ester (e.g., fumaric acid), (b) 5-30mol% trimellitic acid (anhydride) or its lower alkyl ester and (c) 0.1-20mol% (i) polycarboxylic acid (anhydride) of an average MW of 8,000- 20,000 and a softening point of 60-120 deg.C, obtained by copolymerizing a 22-62C alpha-olefin with maleic anhydride or (ii) its lower alkyl ester and/or (iii) tetracarboxylic acid (anhydride) of formula II (wherein X is a 5-30C alkylene or alkenylene having at least one 3C or higher side chain). |
