摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To obtain the liquid crystal spatial optical modulator which makes a fast response and has a steep threshold characteristic by using ferroelectric liquid crystal and using an inverter for a liquid crystal driving part. CONSTITUTION:On a substrate A111, the potential at a point X1 is close to the potential VL of a low-voltage side electrode 110 and the potential VL is less than the threshold value of a driving transistor(TR) 104 when the resistance of a photoconductor 101 is much larger than a resistance 102 in, for example, a dark state, so the TR 104 is OFF and the output at a point Y1 is nearly equal to the potential VH of a high-voltage side electrode 109. A substrate B112 in the same structure with the substrate A111 is stuck across a spacer 403 and the ferroelectric liquid crystal 105 is injected into the gap, so that the potential difference between the points Y1 and Y2 determined by write light beams 106 and 107 is applied to the liquid crystal 105. Consequently, the fast electrooptic response is obtained, a liquid crystal driving circuit has the inverter circuit, so the threshold characteristic is steep.</p>
