PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered material of aluminum nitride having high thermal conductivity and coloring by blending aluminum nitride with carbon, a rare earth element and a specific compound, molding and burning the molded article under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:(a) 100 pts.wt. aluminum nitride is blended with 0.01-5 pts.wt. carbon, 0.01-15 pts.wt. calculated as simple substance of rare earth element of oxide of rare earth element and 0.01-15 pts.wt. calculated as simple substance of element of at least one of oxide, carbide and nitride of element of group IVB, group VB and group VIB of the periodic table to give a mixture. (b) The mixture is molded to give a molded article. (c) The molded article is burnt in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at 1,500-2,100 deg.C to give the objective sintered material. The sintered material of aluminum nitride is useful as electronic materials such as an IC packaging material or a substrate material. |
