PURPOSE:To obtain an optical shift register able to shift information only with 3 drive wires by utilizing the rise of a gate level of an element in an ON state so as to eliminate need for a power supply voltage. CONSTITUTION:Plural face light emitting elements 1a - 1d... each consists of (p), (n), (p), n-channel semiconductor layers arranged in order on a semiconductor substrate are arranged in linear, a cathode electrode 3 is connected to earth via a load resistor 21, a gate electrode 4 and earth and gate electrodes of adjacent elements are interconnected by resistors 22, 23 and three wires 11 - 13 are used to drive the elements 1a - 1d.... In this case, a turn-on potential distribution is formed by utilizing a voltage change caused in a load resistor in series with a pnpn element due to a current flowing to the elements 1a - 1d... turned on. Thus, a power supply having required in a conventional register is not required, the number of wires for element drive is decreased to three from four and the configuration is simplified. |
