PURPOSE:To perform an oscillation of a nickel laser in an ultraviolet ray band by emitting nitrogen laser light to nickel vapor to optically pumping nickel atoms. CONSTITUTION:A nickel vapor chamber 1 is evacuated in vacuum by a vacuum pump connected to a pump connecting tube 3, and helium gas of 3Torr is fed into the chamber 1. An XeCl excimer laser focused by a convex lens 13 is emitted to a nickel plate 8 as vaporization laser to melt the plate 8, thereby vaporizing nickel atoms. N2 laser is emitted as exciting laser to the atoms through a window 5 in an emitting region of 4X1.4cm<2>. The emission of the exciting laser is delayed by several microseconds from the vaporization of the atoms, and so regulated as to obtain an optimum laser output. The atoms at a bottom level E1 absorb the N2 laser light to be transited to an exciting resonance level E2. The N2 laser used as the exciting laser has outputs of 336.9575nm, 336.9555nm, 336.9542nm near the exciting resonance wavelength. |
