PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF 2-CHLOROMETHYL PRIDINE DERIVATIVES

A method for preparing 2-chloro methyl pyridine derivs. of formula (I) comprises reacting a 2-methyl pyridine deriv. of formula (II) with POCl3 and an amine cpd. at 20-60 deg.C for 3-6 hrs. In the formulas, R=H or methoxy. Pref. the amine is selected from triethylamine, trimethylamine or pyridine. Cpds. (I) are useful as an intermediate in the preparation of gastric acid secretion inhibitors.
