The plate material to be puttied is placed with its one surface on a conveyor and fed in between the conveyor and a press mat on the other side of the plate material. Putty is applied over the whole plate material at a point before the plate goes into press engagement under the press mat. - The press mat is pressed with such a pressure against the plate that all the putty located on fault free parts of the plate surface is pressed away from the mat, whilst putty is effectively pressed into all the cavities and cracks in the plate surface, so that a completely smooth plate passes in through the press unit. |
