The hood with cooled walls for capturing hot fumes comprises at least one frustoconical portion, the wall of which is formed from juxtaposed tubes each connected to a forced circulation of a cooling liquid. At the broadest section of the frustoconical portion 10, the adjacent tubes 16 are not in contact with each other and gradually approach each other towards the narrowest cross-section, where they partly overlap, so that each tube 16 is either closer to or further from the axis of the hood than its neighbouring tubes and vice versa. Application to hoods as used over a molten metal bath for capturing the very hot fumes given off by the bath. <IMAGE>
