Skimming arrangement for removing contaminants, partic. oils, chemicals, algae, etc., from water surfaces by means of a floating structure (pref. a ship or boat) can be moved in the water. This craft has a pair of floats in an open inlet area forward. Floats are connected to underwater separator plates for guiding the incoming water into a skimming area aft, where there is a skimmer flap, a collecting tank, and pumps for transferring the contaminants into storage tanks. The floats automatically adjust the level of the separator plates to suit the water level. Several other features and variants are claimed. USE/ADVANTAGE - After a first sepn. stage, and without impounding the water, the sepd. water flows aft to an adjustable skimming flap for a final skimming of adjustable thickness. This two-stage arrangement offers a distinct improvement over earlier systems in both performance and costs.
