The sliding vane pump has a housing (1) which encloses a vane guide ring (2) with the rotor (3) rotating inside the guide ring (2). The rotor (3) has radial slits to receive the vanes (4). The end face (7) of the housing part (6), the pressure plate (10), the guide ring (2) and the vanes (4) together form the chambers through which the pumped medium flows. Damping chambers (15A) are formed in the housing part (6) and extend axially from the face (7). At least one of these damping chambers (15A) is divided into two compartments by a rib (17) which extends inwards over the length of the chamber (15a).
