Securing refuse dump by underground sealing structure

Seepage from a refuse dump is prevented by a main drift (2) under the dump, which extends over the latter entire length. The main drift is connected to the ground surface on each side of the dump (1) by sloping trenches (3). The trenches extend at right angles to the direction of the main drift and are excavated by mining machinery and conveyors. After the trenches have been excavated, they are filled with a sealing material which is injected through the open ends of the trenches.
