A moving and holding device (8) operates to rotate, through one revolution, the tip of the heat-bonding tape (T) which has been fed from the tape-reel, so that a loop of tape is formed. A tape-travelling device (3) is arranged to reel tape from the reel so as to enlarge the loop to go around a stack of papers to be bound, and to reel in the tape so that the loop is bound around the stack. The end of the tape is pressed against the end of the loop and is heat-bonded to it by a pressurising and heating device (5). A sub-pressurising device (6) presses the bonded parts of the tape together for a given period following separation of the heating device (5) from the tape.
