Polymers of carbon monoxide with one or more monomers comprising a group of the formula (CH2=CR<1>)-which is linked by a hydrocarbylene bridge to a monovalent oxygen-containing group, and optionally additionally with one or more monomers of the formula CH2=CR<1>R<2>, can be prepared using a catalyst composition based upon a Group VIII metal and a phosphorus bidentate ligand of formula (R<5>R<6>P)2R, in which formulae R<1> and R<2> represent hydrogen atoms and/or hydrocarbyl groups, R is a bivalent organic bridging group which contains at least two carbon atoms in the bridge linking the two phosphorus atoms to each other and R<5> and R<6> represent identical or different optionally polar-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups. Part of the polymers prepared are novel. |
