During a side impact, the beam is deformed, so as to form a stop for the side door. The section (31) of the beam (5) extending inwards from the flange (11), rises towards the passenger space at least in parts. During deformation of the beam, that section of the top beam wall, and the inner beam wall (33) rise upwards, forming a fold (35), which projects upwards over the flange.
