The dividing mechanism forms small plates from the deep frozen blocks (13). It has a circular saw with several blades (12a-e) alongside each other on a drive shaft above a main conveyor track (8), formed by a plate for the blocks, closer to it than the height of the blocks. Cutters (16) in line with the saw blades are provided for the straps in the blocks not cut through by the latter, while a mechanism 814,15) directs the material, shredded by the blades, back onto the blocks. The cutters are formed by blades of a further circular saw below the main conveyor track, extending through the latter plate, while there is an auxiliary conveyor (3) also below the track and working in the opposite direction (T2). Between the end of this conveyor and the start of the main track is a transfer mechanism for the incoming blocks (1) from the auxiliary to the main conveyor.
