A book is bound by forming signatures (3) from groups of folded pages. These signatures (3) are then sewn together by means of a continuous thread (5) to form a block of pages ready to receive a cover. The continuous thread (5) is first impregnated with glue in order to attach the spine of the cover. The signatures are stitched together by means of a line of simple stitches (6) and a line of looped stitches (7). The end loop (9) hangs over the end signature and is then cut through.
