New process for the preparation of water-insoluble fatty product microspheres, loaded or not loaded with an active substance. This new process is characterised by the dissolution of at least one fatty product chosen from aliphatic alcohols having from 8 to 16 carbon atoms, aliphatic acids having from 8 to 15 carbon atoms and the esters of these or mixtures thereof, optionally with an active substance, in a water-miscible solvent which can also solubilise the aforementioned active substance, followed by the introduction of this mixture, preferably by injection using a syringe, into an aqueous medium with stirring and at a temperature between 4 DEG C and the melting point of the chosen fatty product(s) and by the recovery and drying of the microspheres thereby obtained. Use of the microspheres obtained according to the process in compositions for therapeutic or cosmetic application.
