The method for manufacturing pliable objects, such as book covers, folding containers or the like by welding plastic films with reinforcing liners interposed employs a welding apparatus which permits the use of halogen-free thermoplastic films and has a welding tool which can be heated to the desired welding temperature and a counter-tool which can be set to a temperature below the melting temperature of the films and has a profiling corresponding to the desired welding or embossing contour, in particular a cutting edge, as well as a heat-conductive release foil which can be introduced into the welding apparatus, through which the thermal energy required for plasticising the films can be supplied to them and from which the films can be detached after they have cooled. After drawing in and fixing an outer cover film, which faces the counter-tool heated to a temperature lying in the temperature range of film softening, but below the film melting temperature, a vacuum is generated in the flat hollow formed by the counter-tool in order that the reinforcing liner is laid in this flat hollow, lined by the cover film; the inner film, away from the counter-tool, and the release foil are laid on the hollow, the heated welding tool is moved in the direction of the counter-tool, the welding tool is returned once welding has been completed and, depending on weld cooling, first of all the release foil is detached from the weld and then the film/reinforcing liner unit is detached from it once the vacuum has been removed from the hollow of the counter-tool. <IMAGE> |
