A traffic beacon casing (1) is made up of two hemispherical shell portions (2 and 3). The inner surface of each of the shell portions (2 and 3) is formed with an array of light-diffusing elements (20) which serve to diffuse light transmitted from an internal light source housed within the casing (1) to the exterior of the beacon. Because the elements (20) serve to diffuse light it is possible to form the casing (1) from dyed transparent or semi-transparent material rather than from material having a high opacity such as is employed to form conventional traffic beacon casings in which the casing material itself provides the required degree of light diffusion. Accordingly, light transmission can be enhanced as compared to such a conventional traffic beacon, thereby enhancing visibility and contributing to road safety. <IMAGE> |
