Decorative mouldings with zones of differing appearance are made using a liq. resin (I) and a hardener into the combination of which is introduced localised changes in colour and/or transparency by additions of a pigment or induction of voids which may, if superficial, be filled with a contrasting resin. The pattern distribution may be developed by flow or differential density effects before the liq. resin sets. The resin may be natural or synthetic, typically epoxy. Pref. the moulding may incorporate prefabricated inserts comprising, e.g., a coloured block or a combination of a small lamp and a battery. Local pigment dispersions may be directed by an accelerational force, including gravity. Cavities in the moulding may be induced by the heating used for polymerisation or curing of (I). USE - Esp. for mfr. of fashionable items, e.g., personal or household ornaments as individualistic pieces. The pattern effects more durable than painted or printed patterns, because they are not superficial, and more variable than those achieved by injection moulding.
