URETHRAL INDWELLING CATHETER WITH MAGNETICALLY CONTROL DRAINAGE VALVE AND METHOD

An indwelling urethral catheter includes a user controlled incontinence portion 12 that is combinable with a combination inflation/drainage member 14. The inflation/drainage member 14 can be detached from the incontinence portion 12 to provide a user controlled device. A magnetic valve means (60, Fig. 11) is incorporated in the user controlled incontinence portion 12 for magnetic actuation with an external magnet (77, Fig. 11). The valve means is normally closed and magnetically actuable to an open condition. Removal of the external magnet from proximity to the penis enables the valve means to assume its normally closed position. In one embodiment of the invention the valve means includes a pressure relief feature.
