PURPOSE:To enhance the characteristics and reliability by including catalyst particles, fluoric resin particles and carbon fibers, and precluding the phosphoric acid distribution from being turned uncontinuous in an electrode catalyst layer when a fuel cell concerned is in operation. CONSTITUTION:An electrode catalyst layer consists of catalyzer particles 7, fluoric resin particles 8, and carbon fibers 2. Therein the catalyst particles 7 are prepared by allowing catalyst carrier consisting of carbon black to carry noble metal particles, and the fluoric resin particles 8 bind the catalyst particles 7 to form a passage for phosphoric acid and reaction gas, and the carbon fibers 2 are mixed uniformly with the catalyst particles 7 and fluoric resin particles 8 to make the phosphoric acid distribution in the passage continuous. Carbon fibers 2 are easily wetted by phosphoric acid electrolyte and have many voids, so that the phosphoric acid with the distributed condition turned uncontinuous is coupled with other phosphoric acid electrolyte. Thereby a fuel cell can be equipped with an electrode catalyst layer having excellent characteristics and reliability. |
