The method and apparatus for controlling a movement applies to the control of any rectilinear movement of a guided object subjected to a constant force and in particular to the control of the state of wear of the slides of an appliance for measuring the compressibility of articles of the tobacco industry.
<??>For this purpose, the apparatus (3) is installed in place of the cigarette support; the force applied by the loads (22, 23) onto a force-measuring cell (31), mounted on a motorised slide (33) and moving parallel to said loads, is measured as a function of the displacement. A central processing unit prepares a graphic display showing the measured force against movement; any imperfection in the surface state of the slides (22a, 23a) can be seen on the graphic display.
