A bearing device for a wheel is provided with a bearing 6 for the wheel, the bearing 6 comprising: an outer ring 5 having double-row outer raceway surfaces 13, 14 formed on the inner peripheral surface thereof; a hub ring 1 and an inner ring 2, which have formed on the outer peripheral surfaces thereof double-row inner raceway surfaces 8, 9 facing the outer raceway surfaces 13, 14; and double-row rolling bodies 3, 4 arranged between the outer raceway surfaces 13, 14 of the outer ring 5 and the inner raceway surfaces 8, 9 of both the hub ring 1 and the inner ring 2. An axial end surface of the hub ring 1 of the bearing 6 for the wheel and an axial end surface of the outer joint member 20 of a constant velocity universal joint 7 are joined together in a torque-transmittable manner by face splines 29, 30. A magnetic encoder 48 facing a rotational speed sensor 47 which is mounted on the outer ring side of the bearing 6 for the wheel is mounted to the outer joint member 20 of the constant velocity universal joint 7, thereby enabling the detection of whether or not there is a sensor output which depends on the magnitude of the axial distance from the magnetic encoder 48 to the rotational speed sensor 47. |
