The invention relates to a safety marking-out stake for race courses, particularly for horse racing, of the type including a mast 1 carried by a foot 4, the said mast having at least one approximately vertical part. According to the invention, the approximately vertical part of the mast is equipped in its upper region with a bent lateral extension 2 carrying by means of a pivoting zone 5 a return 3 which is movable in rotation in a vertical plane while being suspended from the said extension and including at least a part occupying an approximately vertical position in the absence of external force applied to it, and the approximately vertical part of the mast 1 includes at least one zone 6 of lower mechanical strength permitting the retraction of the bent lateral extension 2 in the presence of an outside force applied to it. The invention is intended particularly for marking out trotting tracks in a clear manner, while not constituting a hazard.
