Provided is a joining method that can suitably join metal members of different types. The joining method is characterized by including: a preparatory step for preparing a first metal member (1), which is provided with a first upper surface (1b), a first lower surface (1c), and a first inclined surface (1a) for joining the first upper surface (1b) and the first lower surface (1c), and a second metal member (2), which is provided with a second upper surface (2b), a second lower surface (2c), and a second inclined surface (2a) for joining the second upper surface (2b) and the second lower surface (2c) and has a melting point higher than the first metal member (1); a butting step for forming a butting part (J) wherein the first inclined surface (1a) and the second inclined surface (2a) are butted together; and a joining step for joining the first metal member (1) and the second metal member (2) by inserting a rotating rotary tool (F) only from the first upper surface (b) and moving the rotary tool (F) along the butting part (J) in a state wherein only a mixing pin (F2) is at least in contact with the first metal member (1). |
