PURPOSE:To realize small size and to obtain amplifying ability for exciting light by arranging an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer, an optical filter, and an optical isolator which make signal light and the exciting light travel in mutually opposite directions on an optical path formed on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:The optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 12, optical filter 13, and optical isolator 14 which made the signal light and exciting light travel in the mutually opposite directions are arranged on the optical path 11 formed on the substrate. The signal light which is made incident on the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 12 is therefore projected on an optical communication system connected to the reception side for the light signal through the optical filter 13 and optical isolator 14. The exciting light which is made incident on the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 12, on the other hand, travels in the opposite direction and is projected on a fiber 17 through the optical path 11 and amplified optically by nonlinear effect while propagated in the optical fiber 17, so that the light is projected on the optical communication system connected to a transmission side for the light signal. Consequently, although the size is small, the amplifying ability for the exciting light is provided and the inexpensive optical fiber amplifier parts in simple structure is obtained. |
